According to a recent report by the World Economic Forum, there is no country in the world where women earn as much as men for doing the same job. And not only is this income inequality apparent now, but it will take another 81 years before the gender gap closes.
The US ranked 65th out of the 142 countries analyzed in this report. The annual report took into account such factors as health, education, and political participation to determine the pay gap between men and women per country. WEF economist and author Saadia Zahidi explained that the wage gap between men and women has closed by just one percent in the past year to 66 percent “meaning that women earn about two-thirds of what men earn for similar work according to the perception of business leaders.” This disappointing ranking highlights how much change is still needed for women to receive equal pay in the United States today.
